Switching Off Disease, One Lightbulb at a Time

The invention of the light bulb is one of mankind’s greatest, but lightbulbs carry with them an all-too-often overlooked problem: insects. It’s no secret that insects are attracted to light, which is a mere annoyance for many of us, but for those who live in Central America, Africa, and other similarly hot, tropical climates, attracting potentially malaria carrying mosquitos with a little extra light doesn’t sound like such a good idea. As a result, it has become necessary to build a better lightbulb.
